Learning English with Grandma Valerie

Learning English

Please go to Product Information for latest launch news.

Learning English, even learning English as a second language, is easier, fun and more memorable with Grandma’s Stories.

Grandma’s Stories are based on pan European prehistory - exciting adventures about our ancestors – stories progress from The Ice Age to The Roman Empire.

Grandma’s beautifully illustrated storybooks are available in English and can be printed in dual languages, English and any other language. Please go to country pages. Parents, or teachers who cannot read English at all can read the stories in their own language and learn English while helping their children. As families learn to read, speak and understand English they will also learn about European history and culture.

Grandma Valerie suggests wholesome fun activities for the whole family, or class. Drama and topics for discussion – learning English and having fun while practicing language skills.
Grandma suggests lots of activities - places to visit - like museums, nature reserves and farms, historical sites, craftspeople and local manufacturers, even supermarkets.

Art, Drama, Science, Making things, growing plants. Cooking and eating the foods of our ancestors teaches where food comes from and a better diet.
All activities are designed to make learning fun and memorable.

Grandma encourages children to use the internet. A FREE Download of interesting websites relating to each story helps children to become detectives and learn more about history, geography and science.

We plan to develop the site, add a forum and encourage school twinning. Children will be able to send their pictures for Grandma’s Art Gallery and see their art on the World Wide Web. A ‘virtual’ grandma on our website will write regular newsletters and can sent e-cards.

Grandma Valerie has recorded stories in clear Standard English -The best way to learn English pronunciation is to hear it spoken by a native English speaker – we plan to add a local grandmother, or grandfather, for every language.

An interactive CD-ROM will accompany every book and a version for Promethean Interactive Whiteboards will be launched in January 2007
