Grandma’s
Stories Ltd was created by two grandmothers.
Valerie Wood-Gaiger MBE and her friend and neighbour Carroll Nunnerley.
They live near each other in a tiny village, Myddfai in The Brecon Beacons
National Park in rural Wales, a beautiful area full of Celtic history,
legend and inspiration.
.
Valerie, has three grown up children, seven grandchildren
and a little great-grandson. She has always told stories and has a great
interest in European history and prehistory. She decided to bring the
two together to tell children about their past.
Carroll, also
has three children, six grandchildren and was a foster mother to many
more. Carroll has a BA in history and a MA degree in education for children
with special needs, both gifted children and the not so gifted.
The two grannies knew that
these factional stories could help children learn English, as both first
and second languages, and knew how to make learning fun!
Both grannies have fond memories of how their grandma’s told stories
and brought the stories to live with play and activities. They never forgot
the lessons they learned from their grandma’s.
Grandma’s Stories
Ltd is the publisher of these original books. All our books will
include our unique Learn with Grandma Cyf. educational
programme.
Learn with Grandma
Cyf has been established as a not for profit comunity based
enterprise. Please go to Learn with Grandma page.
Today more grandparents care
for their grandchildren on a regular basis than ever before. Carroll and
Valerie want to encourage parents, grandparents and teachers to make learning
fun. All the activities are designed to make learning fun and memorable.
Drama, discussion topics and language skills projects give opportunities
to practice language skills.
Visits to museums, farms and other places of interest can be either class
or family outings.
Art and science; Geography and games; even cooking the food our ancestors
ate helps bring the story to live and will encourage children to try new
foods; understand where food comes from and food production methods.
The grannies want encourage
responsible internet use. A free educational download of the websites
that Valerie found interesting when researching the stories can be downloaded
by clicking the Download page.
We want children to scan their pictures and send them to us
